Ingredients
Scale
- 1 unbaked pizza crust (14–16 inches): The foundation of your pizza, providing structure and crunch. You can choose store-bought or make your own from scratch if you prefer.
- 1 tbsp olive oil: This adds richness and helps develop a crispy crust. Extra virgin olive oil is recommended for its flavor.
- 2 cups blackberries: These juicy berries provide a delightful sweetness and vivid color. Fresh blackberries are preferred, but if out of season, frozen can work as a substitute.
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella: A classic pizza cheese that melts beautifully, providing that gooey texture everyone loves.
- 1 cup shredded parmesan: This hard cheese adds a sharp, salty flavor that complements the sweetness of the blackberries.
- 1/2 cup ricotta cheese: Its creamy texture gives a luxurious mouthfeel to the pizza, balancing the strong flavors of the other cheeses.
- 10 fresh basil leaves: The aromatic herb that elevates the dish, adding freshness and a burst of flavor.
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 500°F (260°C) with a pizza stone inside. This high temperature will ensure a perfectly crisp crust.
- Prepare the crust: Take the unbaked pizza crust (14-16 inches) and brush it evenly with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. This helps in creating a golden, crispy edge.
- Smash the blackberries: Take 1 cup of the fresh blackberries and gently smash them using a fork or potato masher. Spread the smashed blackberries evenly over the oiled crust to form a layer of fruity goodness.
- Add the cheese: Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mozzarella evenly over the smashed blackberries, ensuring good coverage. Follow this with 1 cup of shredded parmesan for added flavor and texture.
- Top with remaining blackberries and ricotta: Scatter the remaining 1 cup of fresh blackberries over the cheese. Then, use a spoon to dollop 1/2 cup of ricotta cheese across the pizza for creamy bites in every slice.
- Bake the pizza: Carefully place the pizza in the oven (on the pizza stone) and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown. Keep an eye on it to prevent burning.
- Add basil: In the last few minutes of baking, chop 10 fresh basil leaves and scatter them over the pizza to allow the aromatics to infuse as it finishes baking.
- Slice and serve: Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a minute, then slice it into wedges. Enjoy your creation hot!
