  • Author: Alyssa

Description

Rich, hearty cowboy spaghetti with bold flavors. A satisfying twist on classic pasta, loaded with spices and savory goodness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb spaghetti: The base of the dish, choosing a high-quality pasta will ensure the best texture.
  • 1 tbsp olive oil: Adds richness and is essential for sautéing the vegetables and meat.
  • 1 lb ground beef: Provides a savory and hearty flavor; it can be substituted with extra turkey if desired.
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (replaced with turkey sausage): Adds spices and depth; turkey sausage is a leaner alternative.
  • 1 large onion, chopped: Essential for a base flavor; sweet onions work best for this dish.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced: Adds aromatic flavor that elevates the entire dish.
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped: Adds sweetness and texture; use red, yellow, or green according to preference.
  • 1 (28 oz) can diced tomatoes: Provides acidity and moisture, essential for the sauce’s base.
  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce: Adds extra richness and ensures the spaghetti has a delightful sauce.
  • 1 (4 oz) can diced green chilies: Adds a gentle heat and enhances the flavors.
  • 2 tbsp chili powder: Delivers a bold flavor; adjust according to your spice tolerance.
  • 1 tsp ground cumin: Imparts a warm, earthy taste that complements the spices perfectly.
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika: Adds depth and a smoky flavor that enhances the overall profile.
  • Salt & pepper to taste: Essential for seasoning; be sure to taste as you go!
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese: Adds creaminess and a salty finish; fresh is best!
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro: A refreshing garnish that brightens the dish.

Instructions

  1. Cook spaghetti: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add 1 lb spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Once done, drain and set aside.
  2. Prepare the meat: In a large skillet, heat 1 tbsp olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 lb ground beef and 1 lb turkey sausage (or turkey sausage) to the skillet. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes, making sure to break up the meat into small pieces.
  3. Cook the vegetables: Add 1 large chopped onion, 2 cloves minced garlic, and 1 chopped bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté everything together until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Combine the sauce: Stir in 1 (28 oz) can diced tomatoes, 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce, and 1 (4 oz) can diced green chilies. Mix well.
  5. Add spices: Sprinkle in 2 tbsp chili powder, 1 tsp ground cumin, and 1 tsp smoked paprika. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir everything together to combine.
  6. Simmer: Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and sauce to thicken. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  7. Toss with spaghetti: Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet with the sauce. Toss everything together until the spaghetti is well coated with the sauce.
  8. Serve: Serve hot, topped with 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese and 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro. Enjoy your bold and savory Cowboy Spaghetti!
