Description
Brie and Cherry Compote Bites—creamy Brie topped with sweet cherry compote on crispy crackers. A perfect appetizer for any occasion.
Ingredients
- Brie cheese: 8 ounces – The star of the dish, Brie adds a rich creaminess that melts beautifully.
- Cherry compote: 1 cup – Made from fresh or frozen cherries, this sweet topping adds a burst of flavor. (To make your compote, simmer pitted cherries with 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice until thickened.)
- Puff pastry: 1 sheet (thawed) – Provides a flaky, buttery shell that enhances the texture contrast in each bite.
- Egg wash: 1 egg (beaten with 1 tablespoon of water) – This gives the pastry a beautiful golden brown color when baked.
- Fresh basil or mint leaves: for garnish optional – Adds a touch of freshness and color to the dish.
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). This ensures the pastries will bake evenly.
- Prepare the puff pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into 2-inch squares. You will need about 12 squares for 12 bites.
- Place the Brie: Cut the Brie cheese into small cubes, approximately 1 inch in size. Place one cube at the center of each pastry square.
- Add the cherry compote: Spoon about 1 tablespoon of cherry compote over the Brie on each pastry square, ensuring it covers the cheese well.
- Seal the bites: Fold the corners of the pastry squares over the filling to create a little package. Press the edges firmly to seal. You can also crimp the edges with a fork for a decorative touch.
- Apply the egg wash: Brush the tops of each pastry with the egg wash to allow them to develop a beautiful golden color during baking.
- Bake: Place the bites on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown and puffed.
- Cool and garnish: Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly. Garnish with fresh basil or mint leaves before serving.
- Serve: These bites are best enjoyed warm, so serve them immediately for optimal flavor and texture.
