Classic Tiramisu

  • Author: Alyssa

Description

Experience classic tiramisu! This rich, creamy dessert layers coffee-soaked ladyfingers with mascarpone, creating an irresistible treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 egg yolks: These create a rich base for the cream layer, enhancing the dessert’s smooth texture.
  • 1/2 cup sugar: This sweetens the cream and balances the bitterness of the coffee.
  • 8 oz mascarpone: An essential ingredient, this creamy cheese lends a rich and luxurious flavor to the Tiramisu.
  • 1 cup heavy cream: Whipped to stiff peaks, it adds lightness and volume to the dessert.
  • 1 cup brewed coffee (cooled): The star of the dish, providing deep flavor and authenticity—choose high-quality coffee for the best results.
  • 2 tbsp sugar (for the coffee soak): This enhances the sweetness of the coffee mixture, perfecting the dip for the ladyfingers.
  • 1 tbsp coffee liqueur (optional): For those who wish to elevate the flavor, this adds depth, making the coffee taste richer.
  • Cocoa powder for dusting: It provides a delightful finishing touch and a slight bitterness that complements the sweetness.
  • 1 pack ladyfingers: These sponge-like cookies absorb the coffee and contribute to the dessert’s delicious layers.
  • Dark chocolate shavings (optional): For an extra touch, these shavings finish off the dessert beautifully, adding complexity in flavor.

Instructions

  1. Create the Cream Layer: In a mixing bowl, whisk together 3 egg yolks and 1/2 cup sugar until the mixture is creamy and pale. This process should take about 3-5 minutes. Next, fold in 8 oz mascarpone until smooth and fully combined.
  2. Prepare the Heavy Cream: In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup heavy cream to stiff peaks. This light and airy whipped cream will give your Tiramisu its delightful texture. Once achieved, gently fold it into the mascarpone mixture, ensuring not to deflate the whipped cream.
  3. Mix the Coffee Soak: In a shallow dish, combine 1 cup cooled brewed coffee, 2 tbsp sugar, and 1 tbsp coffee liqueur (optional). Stir until the sugar dissolves, creating a sweet coffee soak to enhance the ladyfingers.
  4. Assemble the Tiramisu: Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture for just a second—do not let them soak too long, or they will become soggy. Arrange half of the dipped ladyfingers in a single layer in the bottom of a serving dish.
  5. Add Cream Layer: Spread half of the mascarpone cream mixture over the first layer of ladyfingers, smoothing it out evenly.
  6. Repeat Layers: Repeat the process with another layer of dipped ladyfingers followed by the remaining cream mixture.
  7. Chill: Cover and refrigerate the assembled Tiramisu for a minimum of 4 hours, allowing the flavors to meld beautifully.
  8. Serve: Just before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and garnish with dark chocolate shavings (optional) for an elegant finish.
