Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to ensure your cake will not stick.
  2. Mix the egg and sugar: In a mixing bowl, beat 4 large eggs with 1/2 cup granulated sugar until the mixture becomes fluffy and pale. This process incorporates air—yielding a light cake.
  3. Sift dry ingredients: Sift together 1/3 cup all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the egg mixture to maintain that airy texture.
  4. Spread the batter: Pour the batter onto the prepared baking sheet, spreading it evenly using a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes. Keep an eye on it; the cake is done when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. Roll the cake: Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and roll it up with the parchment paper, starting from the short end. This technique helps shape the cake while it cools. Allow it to cool completely while rolled.
