Description

Discover the joy of making your own homemade stromboli! Our easy-to-follow recipe guide will have you rolling delicious stromboli filled with your favorite meats and cheeses in no time. Perfect for family dinners or gatherings!

Ingredients

  • Pizza Dough: 1 batch (about 2 lbs) – The base of the stromboli, providing structure and flavor.
  • Garlic Butter: 2 tablespoons melted butter mixed with 1 minced garlic clove – Adds a rich, savory flavor to the dough.
  • Fresh Parsley or Desired Herbs: 1 tablespoon chopped – Enhances the flavor and adds a fresh touch.
  • Sliced Meats: 1 pound (Italian cold cuts, deli ham, or large pepperoni slices) – Provides a variety of textures and flavors.
  • Cheese: ¾ – 1 pound (about 3 cups shredded or 16-20 slices deli cheese) – Adds creaminess and meltiness to the stromboli.
  • Egg Wash: 1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water – Gives the crust a shiny, golden finish.
  • Optional Toppings: Chopped fresh or dried parsley, flaky sea salt – Adds visual appeal and extra flavor.

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough:
    • Follow your pizza dough recipe to prepare the dough. After kneading, let it rise until doubled in size.
  • Roll Out the Dough:
    • Divide the dough in half if making two strombolis. Roll each half into a 10×16-inch rectangle on a floured surface.
  • Add Garlic Butter:
    • Spread the garlic butter evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
  • Layer the Fillings:
    • Sprinkle fresh parsley or desired herbs over the buttered dough. Layer on the meats and cheeses, keeping them within the border.
  • Roll the Dough:
    • Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seams and ends to seal.
  • Prepare for Baking:
    • Place the stromboli on a parchment-lined baking sheet, seam side down. Brush with egg wash and make several slits on top to allow steam to escape.
  • Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven at 400°F (204°C) for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Cool and Serve:
    • Let the stromboli cool on a cooling rack for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Feel free to experiment with different fillings such as sautéed vegetables, different cheeses, or even leftover roasted chicken.
  • Try using a mix of herbs like basil, oregano, and thyme for a more aromatic flavor.
  • Mozzarella is a classic choice, but you can also use provolone, cheddar, or a blend of your favorite cheeses.
