Description

Savory Breakfast Sausage Crescent Rolls are flaky pastries filled with seasoned sausage and cheese, perfect for a quick and delicious breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz) of refrigerated crescent roll dough: This is the base of your dish, providing a buttery, flaky texture that complements the sausage perfectly.
  • 1 lb of breakfast sausage (turkey or chicken): The star ingredient, offering savory flavors. Choose a high-quality sausage for the best results. You can select a mild or spicy variation based on personal preference.
  • 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese: Adds richness and creaminess. Feel free to use sharp cheese for a more robust flavor or a dairy-free alternative for dietary needs.
  • 1/2 cup of cream cheese (softened): Enhances the fluffiness and taste of your rolls. For a lighter option, consider using a low-fat cream cheese.
  • 1 tsp garlic powder: Provides depth of flavor and a hint of spice.
  • 1 tsp onion powder: Complements the sausage while adding an aromatic touch.
  • Salt and pepper to taste: Essential seasonings to enhance the overall flavor of the filling.

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). This ensures a perfectly cooked, golden-brown exterior.
  2. Prepare the sausage filling: In a skillet, over medium heat, cook 1 lb of breakfast sausage (turkey or chicken) until it is browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart with a spatula to ensure even cooking (about 5-7 minutes). Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Add spices: Stir in 1 tsp of garlic powder, 1 tsp of onion powder, salt and pepper to taste, and mix well. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  4. Mix in cheese: In a bowl, combine the cooked sausage, 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese, and 1/2 cup of softened cream cheese. Mix until thoroughly combined, ensuring the sausage is evenly distributed.
  5. Prepare crescent rolls: Open the can of refrigerated crescent roll dough and separate it into triangles as indicated on the packaging.
  6. Fill the rolls: Place a spoonful of the sausage mixture at the wide end of each crescent triangle. Roll up from the wide end to the narrow end, tucking the sides in slightly to prevent the filling from spilling out. Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until they are golden brown. Keep an eye on them to avoid burning.
  8. Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. They taste best warm!
